Tell us a bit about your role here at Vision. What do you do?
Working as a Bid Manager at Vision often comes with a satisfying adrenaline rush, no two days are the same! One day you could be crafting a compelling proposal response that helps highlight our innovative solutions, and the next, you’re pulling together a presentation that showcases our unique expertise and experience.
By supporting the Sales Team in their efforts to win new business, being a Bid Manager gives you have the opportunity to work in a collaborative environment that pulls in creative input from across the business and help solve complex challenges that hopefully leads to celebrating a win!
Tell us about your journey at Vision so far… How long have you worked here? Which other roles (if any) have you held?
"Life is like a box of chocolates,” Forest Gump famously declared, “you never know what you’re gonna get!” I couldn’t think of a better phrase to describe my time at Vision.
Since starting in April 2023, I have been involved in a number of interesting bids, specifically one for McLaren Construction, where we had to submit a physical bid that was comprised of three binders and have it hand delivered by courier to their corporate office, something I haven’t seen since my early days of working within Procurement.
Outside of my role as a Bid Manager, I’ve also had the opportunity to contribute to the company’s ESG efforts, as well as several other initiatives that help the business operate as responsibly as possible.
What’s the most interesting project you’ve been involved with during your time at Vision?
I had the opportunity to kick start Vision’s Carbon Reduction Planning which played a central role in their wider sustainability strategy.
To ensure success for this project, we formed a ‘Sustainability Steering Group’ which highlighted the efforts of employees around the business who were making positive contributions towards reducing the company’s carbon footprint by implementing sustainable practices. For example the ‘Office Services Team’, had made notable improvements by installing LED lighting throughout some of the offices.
What do you enjoy most about working here?
I am inspired by the dedication of my colleagues who go above and beyond to support both our business and the wider community. It is truly heart warming to see their commitment, whether it’s running a marathon or competing in corporate away days in order to raise money for charity.
I feel lucky to work for a business that helps us to go beyond our day jobs to give back to the local community.
How would you describe the company culture at Vision?
The company culture at Vision is a vibrant brew of passionate personalities, tantalising talents, and unique perspectives, a place where everyone has something special to bring to the table. People genuinely work together to maintain an atmosphere of togetherness, whether it’s putting on an impromptu bar-b-q in the summer, organising pool leagues, or arranging book clubs, there is always a sense of camaraderie.
What’s next for you? Where do you want to be in 5 years?
I am looking forward to seeing how much the world of Procurement could potentially change in the next five years. AI will undoubtedly revolutionise the industry and as it continues to advance I am keen to see how it will support the role of Bid Managers by automating routine tasks such as maintaining a bid library as well as driving innovation.
Outside of work, what do you enjoy doing?
I am a creative at heart and my big love is writing.
After completing my Master’s Degree in English, I started writing a compilation of children’s books around many of the folklore stories I grew up reading, specifically the famous ‘Anansi the Spiderman’ and all of his clever antics.
Finally, what’s an interesting fact about you that people don’t know?
In 2009 I had my fifteen minutes of fame when I appeared as a contestant on ‘Deal or no Deal’ with Noel Edmonds! I didn’t get a big win, but I did get to talk to the ‘Banker’!
